DEATH PENALTY

The initial instruction about Human life was very simple: You will not kill. Beyond the fields of morality, sociology, ethics, religion or individual believes, the reason for that was also simple: Human life - in the extended context of its existence - cannot depend on changing ideologies or thoughts present in also always changing times. When Human life gets attached to men´s way of thinking life itself is jeopardized.

Humanity history gives many examples but perhaps a very vivid one happened at the peak of the French Revolution. There it was the guillotine as an extended hand of those who believed to have the right to terminate a life, a practice very common in every part of the world by the times. It began with the king and queen; later on, those who had sent the royals to the guillotine were lying there on the same place and by the same means; sometime after, it was the turn for those executioners to kneel before the blade, and it went on for a period known as the terror, a relatively short period when the containers of opposed ideologies rolled down liveless to a basket. For all parties the others were murderers. Both, the reasons for the killing and the killing itself look absurd today as human life changes and so does humanity ´s interpretation of its world and life. Therefore, Human like cannot be associated to ways of thinking or to societies needs. Life is a RIGHT given to every individual born on Earth, and Humanity´s troubles cannot be taken as an excuse to appropriate that right over another human life. That is why as societies entered into civilization, practices like those mentioned were banned.

The situation set on present times provides a scenario in different parts of the World that only corroborates the principle. Take for example the two most powerful nations on Earth, The United States of America and China, bearing opposite ideology and form of government - different ways of thinking - where death penalty is practiced, though in America it happens in some states and not in the nation as a whole. In a strict order of ideas, if the Chinese government were set in the US and the US government in China, both holding the death penalty tool, populations in both nations would tend to vanish... Human life cannot be attached to an ideology, not to society needs either.

People who outrageously break society´s coexistence and safety are to be put at bay for society´s sake and by society´s organization, which usually happens through its police and judicial systems. Failure to do it is hardly an excuse to get rid of the problem by taking anybody´s life. Those who openly show a deep disruption of what makes a normal human being still have the right to their life, as transformation is a possibility always present in a human life. To deny them that possibility would be like getting rid of old people when they become a burden or of disabled people because they cannot participate as the others. Every society must deal with disrupted individuals, all of them. It is part of its many tasks. It is about Human Rights. Back to the example, in America where both police and judicial systems show cracks for variables like racism to get through, and in China where a group of people has the unique and final call, in both nations a wide field for potential unjust deaths is created, events that in the future will seem as absurd as today past practices look.

The great asset of Humanity is the capacity to produce a vast and varied field of thinking which has been at the roots of its own development. Variety of thought is the engine that moves Humanity forwards and it will keep changing in time. That is why Human LIFE cannot depend on men´s ideas or on a particular need of society in a particular frame of time. Every Human life - in all times and circumstances - is sacred.
