Its is a fact that Latin America is experiencing the need for more modern governments, rulers able to set themselves apart from inoperant left and indolent right in order to develop an intelligent commitment with their peoples, a task that implies connection with all other peoples on Earth, disregarding stiff ideologies in either side. That is Latin America situation today. But, it is also a fact, that what is happening in Brazil these days is nothing of the sort. Leaving aside the political passions this cases arise, and despite likes or dislikes for the protagonists, the flat picture is an elected President to whom nobody has been able to prove any mischief, being pushed out of office by a political move led by a man now charged with the very same argument - corruption - his movement is using to remove a President from her seat. A man that has recently been removed himself from his post under corruption charges. According to the Spanish journal El Pais, 54% of House Representatives and more that 60% of Senate in Brazil has had or have problems with Justice.

Since the end of the dictatorship era, Latin America has showed both extremes: an isolated from the world Left delivering little progress for their nations, and a connected to the world Right delivering little growth for their peoples. The irony of the actual situation is that Brazil is the exemption. As survivors of a fierce, bloody dictatorship that cared nothing for people, Dilma Rousseff´s generation got to power with a "social" mind that soon was considered by some in the world too leftist, but that also lift the nation to the position of 5th world power. Brazil´s government during the past decades, somehow, managed to include people in their programs, to insert themselves in the world´s diplomacy and business, showing preferences it is true, but never rejecting other nations or government for ideological reasons as it did happened with so many other Latin American nations. A government that managed to stand in a sort of middle ground between extreme left and right that has been so harmful for the continent.

What is to highlight about Brazil present situation, however, is not so much that Brazilians may be forgetting the painful, long road they took from dictatorship to democracy, but the fact that the political move making its way now is not led by any ideology but by mere political ambition shaded with corruption. Corruption has been the true cancer of the continent. Any living citizen of the Americas and in fact of the world, very well know that if a President must be removed because of the corruption of the state he or she rules, every single president should be dismissed at once. But when an elected president with no charges on her own - all presidents of the Americas watching - can be removed taking short deviations from the fabric of Democracy, democracy itself is in jeopardy.

Seen in the context of the continent history, Dilma Rousseff´s process is showing dark jaws, unattached to rigorous Democracy, the vital tool that will permit all nations of the region to peacefully and successfully walk a much-needed transition to modernity. But if the transition permits extended corruption to get official control of government institutions (a disease they already suffer from) the continent would fall in a tragic setback. Corruption is to be put at bay not to set for it a path to power. The most powerful nation of the south continent, an elected President beheaded by an unclear process filled with questionable arguments and void of democratic rigor, would set a very bad example of what should not be, and Latin American nations would have to start all over again from scratch. El Proceso de Dilma Rousseff

AMERICA LATINA: A DESPERTARSE!!!

Es un hecho que América Latina está experimentando la necesidad de gobiernos más modernos, gobernantes capaces de apartarse de la inoperante Izquierda y la indolente Derecha con el fin de desarrollar un compromiso con sus pueblos, tarea que implica una conexión con los pueblos de todo el mundo pese rígidas ideologías de ambos lados. Esa es la situación de América Latina hoy. Pero también es un hecho que lo que está sucediendo en Brasil no tiene nada que ver con eso. Dejando de lado las pasiones políticas que el caso despierta o el gusto o disgusto por sus protagonistas, el paisaje llano y sencillo es una Presidenta elegida por voto popular a quien nadie ha podido demostrar mala conducta, empujada a dejar su cargo por un movimiento político liderado por un hombre ahora bajo los mismos precisos cargos que su movimiento utiliza contra la presidenta. Un hombre que acaba de ser removido él mismo de su posición bajo cargos de corrupción.

Desde el final de la era de las dictaduras América Latina ha mostrado ambos extremos: una Izquierda desconectada del mundo que ha producido poco desarrollo para sus naciones, y una Derecha conectada con el mundo que ha producido poco progreso para sus gentes. La ironía de la situación actual de Brasil es que Brasil es la excepción. Como sobrevivientes de una dictadura fiera y sangrienta que poco o nada tenía en cuenta a la gente, la generción de Dilma Rpusseff llegó al poder con una mentalidad "social" que pronto fue catalogada en algunas partes del mundo como muy izquierdista pero que, también, elevó a su país a la quinta potencia del mundo. Los gobiernos de Brasil durante las últimas décadas, de alguna forma, consiguieron incluir a la gente en sus programas, insertarse en la diplomacia y negocios mundiales, con preferencias es verdad, pero sin rechazar ninguna nación o gobierno por razones ideológicas como sí sucedió en tantos otros países de América Latina. Un gobierno que consiguió ubicarse en un terreno medio entre las extremas derecha e izquierdas que tanto daño le han hecho al continente. 

Lo que es de señalar sobre Brasil hoy, sin embargo, no es tanto que los Brasileros pueden estar olvidando el penoso y difícil camino que anduvieron de la dictadura a la democracia, sino el hecho de que la movida política que se está abriendo paso ahora no está motivada por ideologías sino por mera ambición política teñida de corrupción. La corrupción ha sido el verdadero cáncer del continente. Todo habitante de las Américas y de hecho del mundo bien sabe que si un Presidente debe ser removido de su cargo por la corrupción de estado que gobierna, la totalidad de los presidentes deberían de ser removidos de inmediato. Pero, cuando un Presidente electo - todos los presidentes de las Américas observando - puede ser removido tomando atajos en el tejido democrático, la democracia misma está en peligro. 

Visto en el contexto de la historia del contiente, el proceso de Dilma Rousseff muestra una fauces oscuras, sin conexión con el rigor democrático, la herramienta que les permitirá a las naciones del continente hacer una transición pacífica y exitosa hacia la modernidad. Pero si la transición permite a la extendida corrupción hacerse a las instituciones de gobierno (enfermedad de la que ya sufren en cierta medida) el continente caería en un trágico retroceso. A la corrupción hay que ponerle talanquera no abrirle paso hacia el poder. El país más poderoso del continente del sur, su presidenta elegida popularmente descabezada por un proceso oscuro, lleno de argumentos custionables, sin cargos que pesen sobre ella, y vacío de rigor democrático sentaría un muy mal ejemplo de lo que no debe ser, y América Latina tendría que volver a empezar desde el comienzo. América Latina: A despertarse!!
