AMERICANS: WHAT THEN?
Watching recent political campaign events in America has been an experience full of wonders. One wonders why would any person or, in this case, a collectivity in search of holding office, choose every possible attitude that disgust all good peoples on Earth and angers the universe: aggression, disrespect, arrogance, threads, abuse, inaccuracy, scandal, void of any political programme and wrapped in "fun". It is a wonder.
Choosing rulers is not a small thing for peoples in the World. The chosen ones will set direction for them as a nation, collect and invest their tax money, decide on every single angle of their life in society, and set a place for their nation in the globe. Leadership is not a position. It is the ability of a man, a woman or a group to lead their people into a better life. That IS a leader. That is why this recent exhibition of the obscure side of human nature as a proposal for leadership is a wonder. American politics is their own, therefore, for observers the wonder dos not have to do with the exhibition itself but with a question: what will the rest of American people do before the fact that some of their fellow citizens have characterized them before the World as vain and mean? Yes, the World is watching and not everyone on Earth knows about Washington closed doors politics. Observers near and far, only see "the Americans". The fact is that it is not fair.
Although their actions in the past, their bellicosity and interference, confronted them with many peoples on Earth, the fact is that they are a community that has and still delivers many wonders. Researches, creators, entrepreneurs, they have wandered every field of life always finding ways to change reality, often for good sometimes for worse. Denying that fact would not be accurate. But, perhaps, what turns to be more appealing about the common American people is their strong sense of community and their determination and strength to act. They are doers. Set a difficult situation and tell an American something is impossible. Few moment later there they come: people from the neighborhood, people from other states, two aged ex-hippies, a couple of long hair motorcycle riders, a group of scientist, a retired general, a mother of six with the dog, of course they would not live him behind, the town doctor and the teacher, the police, a tattooed rock singer, a team of nurses, half of the football team, the major for nothing on Earth would miss it, the press like the Calvary surrounds the place and, altogether, make it possible. It is not an American film is takes place in reality. I happened to be living in America during the 1997 blizzard that drowned us in snow. A woman from the tropics illiterate about snow handling, alone with a 11 years daughter burning in fever and an 8 years old son, buried under the snow in a ski cottage on a Virginia mountain. The state was declared in emergency and 911 had a machine informing they would only take death or life calls. Though giving my knowledge about ice, cold and snow it was actually a case of death or life, I quitted calling emergency and stepped out the door. There I saw the community in action, common people facing trouble: elders, children and seek people were attended by everybody, they exchanged and lent tools, phones, even money, food for these ones, wood for those ones, organized, efficient, caring. I also encountered three strangers that happened to save us: huge black Joe who bare handed lifted my car to put it back on the road; the farmer who found me lost in a traffic light, embraced to the map, the children sleeping, who drove before me for 45 minutes until he got me back to the cottage; and police officer Stockton who on the phone guided me step by step and draw me a route to climb down the mountain until he got me home save. All strangers and all gave a hand. Americans do have a sense of community, of caring, of making it happen.
Not that this sense of community does not exist in other parts of the World. It does. The point is that the Americans claim World leadership, should they expect the world to follow them the reasons must be clear. In recent years they have rightfully earned it. But now that the Obama administration is reaching the last mile and the fight to hold office is setting engines on, observers are set still in first base waiting to see what spirit the Americans will propose to the World. That is why recent campaign events are a wonder. Why would people who wish to lead their nation and the world use a grotesque campaign strategy that does not serve their people nor themselves? To use it for contrast in favor of a more moderate candidate of their own? Perhaps, but then, the mere fact of choosing that kind of attitudes gives a smashing glimpse of their use of wealth and power. The American people, use to comfort, feeling good about their own individual lives fulfilled, passive and disgusted with politics, should see clear the moment in time they are going through. The World has changed, is globalized and is watching. What face are they going to show to the World, common Americans and members of both parties? Are they going to show quality to be part of Humanity leadership? Because should they keep on living their own private happy lives indifferent to what their nation is going to BE in the World, then there would not be enough good reasons to follow them or for them to hold World leadership. / Silvia Davila MM, August 15, 2015.
